Plumber Cost 2026: $200–$500 Typical US Service Visit
One weekday plumbing visit for a common repair, labor in one price, often clusters around $200–$500. A small visit costs less. A drain clearing can sit inside that band. An emergency visit costs more.

Planning range
One weekday plumbing visit at a single-family house, a common repair the plumber can finish on that visit, the labor in one price, with a house the plumber can reach from the drive. A small visit, a drain clearing, a toilet repair, a minor leak, a faucet, an emergency visit, one hour, a service call the visit left out, a camera the visit left out, a water heater, a water softener, a shower remodel, and a sewer line are separate.
Typical planning range $200 to $500. National spread $100 to $1,200.
- DIY or hire
- Hire the visit. A supply stop the owner can reach under the sink is the owner's part. A leak inside a wall is where a weekend becomes the job.
- Repair or replace
- Repair one fixture when the pipe and the tank are sound. Replace the water heater, install a softener, remodel the shower, or replace the sewer line when that other job is what failed.
One weekday plumbing visit at a US single-family house — a common repair the plumber can finish on that visit, the labor in one price, with a house the plumber can reach from the drive — often clusters around $200–$500. That is the typical plumber cost. Plumber prices, in that scope, are that visit, not a water heater and not a sewer line. The cost of a plumber, when the labor is in the price, is the same band. How much a plumber costs, for that same visit, is the same band. Plumber pricing, for that same visit, is the same band. A small visit is $100–$200. A drain clearing is $125–$300. An emergency visit is $300–$1,200. The wider national spread, about $100–$1,200, covers a short flat-rate visit at the low end and four hours at $300 an hour at the high end of the published after-hours hourly band. A weekday hourly rate of $75–$150 is a way to read the same visit. A common rate inside that band is $80–$130. A softener on the main is the water softener guide. A surround on an existing stall is the shower remodel guide. A main line is the sewer line guide. These are typical planning ranges, not a survey and not a quote.
This page is one plumbing visit at one house. A bid may call it plumber cost, plumber prices, the cost of a plumber, how much a plumber costs, or plumber pricing. The labor is in the price when the number is the typical band. It is not a water softener, which is the water softener guide. It is not a shower remodel, which is the shower remodel guide. It is not a sewer line, which is the sewer line guide. A supply stop the owner turns under the sink is a smaller product. This page does not price it as the typical band.
The price of the job is the repair the plumber finishes and the hour that puts the labor in the price. The visit is the first cut. Whether the labor is already in the price is the second. A small visit, a standard visit, a drain clearing, and an emergency visit are ways to buy one visit. The visit replaces a different visit. It is not a second visit under a price you already have.
The rows below are ways to read one job. They are not added together. The job table is one visit at a house the plumber can reach. The typical band is one weekday repair, labor in: that row in full. A small visit replaces that rate from $100 to $200. A drain clearing replaces it from $125 to $300. An emergency visit replaces it from $300 to $1,200. Use a line row only for a line the visit row does not include. A line the proposal already includes is not a second line.
| Job | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Small visit | $100–$200 |
| Standard plumber visit, one repair | $200–$500 |
| Drain clearing | $125–$300 |
| Emergency visit | $300–$1,200 |
| Rate or added line | Typical planning range |
|---|---|
| One weekday hour | $75–$150 |
| Toilet repair | $100–$250 |
| Minor leak repair | $150–$400 |
| Faucet or fixture | $150–$535 |
| Service call, if the visit left it out | $50–$250 |
| Camera inspection, if the visit left it out | $150–$400 |
The job rows replace one another. Do not add a drain-clearing price on top of a standard-visit price for the same visit. The rate row is a line the visit left out, or another reading of the same repair. A rate the proposal already includes is not the rate row on top. A service call the bid already folded into $200–$500 is not the service-call row on top.
A standard visit — one weekday repair, the labor in one price — is typically $200–$500. The floor of the row is the typical floor. The top of the row is the typical top. The whole row is the typical band. Two hundred can be this row at its floor, a small visit at its top, or a toilet repair inside its overlap. Five hundred can be this row at its top, a faucet inside its overlap, or an emergency visit inside its overlap. Ask which reading the bid is.
A small visit — one short repair, not the common visit — is typically $100–$200. The rows meet at $200. One hundred is the wider floor and the floor of this row. Two hundred is the typical floor and the top of this row. From $100–$200 the job sits under the typical band except at $200, and it stays inside the wider spread. One hundred can be this row at its floor. It is not the typical band with a discount. Two hundred can be this row at its top or a standard visit at the typical floor. Ask which visit the bid priced. Do not add the standard-visit row under a small-visit price for the same trip.
A drain clearing is typically $125–$300. The overlap with the typical band is $200–$300. One hundred twenty-five is $75 under the typical floor and $25 above the wider floor. Two hundred is the typical floor and inside this row. Three hundred is $100 above the typical floor, $200 under the typical top, and the top of this row. From $125–$200 the job sits under the typical band except at $200, and it stays inside the wider spread. From $200–$300 the job is inside the typical band and inside this row. One hundred twenty-five can be this row at its floor. It is not the typical band with a discount. Three hundred can be this row at its top, a standard visit inside the typical band, or an emergency visit at its floor. A standard-visit price does not get the drain row on top.
An emergency visit is typically $300–$1,200. The overlap with the typical band is $300–$500. Three hundred is $100 above the typical floor and the floor of this row. Five hundred is the typical top and inside this row. One thousand two hundred is the top of this page’s wider spread, $700 past the typical top, and the top of this row. From $300–$500 the job is inside the typical band and inside this row. From $500–$1,200 the job has left the typical band and stays inside the wider spread. Three hundred can be this row at its floor, a standard visit inside the typical band, or a drain clearing at its top. One thousand two hundred can be this row at its top. A standard-visit price does not get this row on top. A straightforward weekday repair can still be the typical band when the bid is that visit, not this row with a second name.
Plumber cost
Plumber cost is this page when the plumber is at the house and the labor is in the price. Plumber costs, for that visit, are the same price. A bid that says plumber cost and a bid that says the cost of a plumber are the same dollars when the house, the repair, and the labor match. The typical band, $200–$500, is one standard visit. It is not a second visit stacked on a repair you already have.
The visit is often the same day. The repair is inside the visit price. It is not a second bill on a number that was already the visit. A weekday hourly rate of $75–$150 is a way to read the same visit. A common rate inside that band is $80–$130. Two hours at $100 is $200, the typical floor. Four hours at $125 is $500, the typical top. Two hours at $80 is $160, which is $60 above the wider floor and $40 under the typical floor. Two hours at $130 is $260, inside the typical band and $60 above the typical floor. The hourly rate and the lump sum are two readings of one visit. They are not added. A bid that already names $200–$500 does not get the hours on top.
One hour at $75 is $75, which is $25 under the wider floor. One hour at $100 is $100, the wider floor and the floor of the small-visit row. One hour at $150 is $150, which is $50 above the wider floor and $50 under the typical floor. The one-hour row, $75–$150, sits under the typical band. From $75 up to the wider floor the hour sits under the wider spread. From $100–$150 the hour is inside the wider spread and under the typical band. One hundred fifty can be this hour at its top or a small visit inside its row. A standard-visit price does not get the hour on top.
A toilet repair is often $100–$250, and that rate is another reading of a short visit. The overlap with the typical band is $200–$250. One hundred is the wider floor and the floor of this row. Two hundred is the typical floor and inside this row. Two hundred fifty is $50 above the typical floor, $250 under the typical top, and the top of this row. From $100–$200 the job sits under the typical band except at $200, and it stays inside the wider spread. From $200–$250 the job is inside the typical band and inside this row. One hundred can be this row at its floor or a small visit at its floor. Two hundred fifty can be this row at its top or a standard visit inside the typical band. A small-visit price does not get the toilet row on top.
Plumber prices
Plumber prices are the visit price, not the price of a wrench on a shelf. For one standard visit, that cost is $200–$500. A bid that prices the plumber and a bid that prices a supply stop the owner turns are not the same number. Keep the labor in the number when a plumber is who does the repair.
A minor leak repair is $150–$400. The overlap with the typical band is $200–$400. One hundred fifty is $50 under the typical floor and $50 above the wider floor. Two hundred is the typical floor and inside this row. Four hundred is $200 above the typical floor, $100 under the typical top, and the top of this row. From $150–$200 the job sits under the typical band except at $200, and it stays inside the wider spread. From $200–$400 the job is inside the typical band and inside this row. It is another reading of the same visit, not a second visit. One hundred fifty can be this row at its floor or a faucet at its floor. Four hundred can be this row at its top or a standard visit inside the typical band. A standard-visit price does not get the leak row on top.
A faucet or fixture is $150–$535. The overlap with the typical band is $200–$500. One hundred fifty is $50 under the typical floor and the floor of this row. Five hundred is the typical top and inside this row. Five hundred thirty-five is $35 past the typical top, inside the emergency row, and $665 under the wider top. From $150–$200 the job sits under the typical band except at $200, and it stays inside the wider spread. From $200–$500 the job is inside the typical band and inside this row. From $500–$535 the job has left the typical band and stays inside the wider spread. One hundred fifty can be this row at its floor or a minor leak at its floor. Five hundred thirty-five can be this row at its top or an emergency visit inside its row. A leak price does not get the faucet row on top.
A service call the same visit left out is $50–$250. Fifty dollars is $50 under the wider floor. One hundred is the wider floor. Two hundred fifty is $50 above the typical floor and $250 under the typical top. From $50 up to the wider floor the call sits under the wider spread. From $100–$200 the call is inside the wider spread and under the typical band, except at $200. From $200–$250 the call is inside the typical band. It is an added line, not the standard visit. Two hundred plus $50 is $250, inside the typical band, only when the $200 left the call out. Two hundred plus $250 is $450, inside the typical band, only when the $200 left the call out. Five hundred plus $50 is $550, which is $50 past the typical top, inside the emergency row, and $650 under the wider top. Five hundred plus $250 is $750, which is $250 past the typical top, inside the emergency row, and $450 under the wider top. A bid that already names the trip does not get this row on top.
Cost of a plumber
The cost of a plumber is the labor on one visit, not a part with the labor left out. When the job is one standard visit, that cost is $200–$500. A price near $100 should say a small visit at the floor of the wider spread, not a standard repair with the labor in. A price near $200 should say whether the labor and the repair are both in. Two hundred can be this band at its floor. It can also be a small visit at its top or a toilet repair inside its overlap. Those can be the same dollars and the same job, read two ways. They are not two bills.
A garbage disposal install is often $200–$450. The whole row sits inside the typical band. Two hundred is the typical floor and the floor of this row. Four hundred fifty is $250 above the typical floor, $50 under the typical top, and the top of this row. From $200–$450 the job is inside the typical band and inside this row. It is another reading of the same visit, not a second visit. Two hundred can be this row at its floor or a standard visit at the typical floor. Four hundred fifty can be this row at its top or a standard visit inside the typical band. A small-visit price does not get the disposal row on top.
A drain clearing is often $125–$300. The overlap with the typical band is $200–$300. One hundred twenty-five is $75 under the typical floor. Three hundred is $200 under the typical top. From $125–$200 the job sits under the typical band except at $200. From $200–$300 the job is inside the typical band and inside this row. One hundred twenty-five can be this row at its floor. Three hundred can be this row at its top or a standard visit inside the typical band. A toilet price does not get this row on top.
An emergency hourly rate of $150–$300 is another reading of an emergency visit. Two hours at $150 is $300, the floor of the emergency row and $100 above the typical floor. Two hours at $300 is $600, which is $100 past the typical top, inside the emergency row, and $600 under the wider top. Four hours at $300 is $1,200, the wider top and the top of the emergency row. The rate and the lump sum are two readings of one emergency visit. They are not added to a weekday visit that was already $200–$500. One and a half times $200 is $300. Two times $500 is $1,000, which is $500 past the typical top, inside the emergency row, and $200 under the wider top. Three times $500 is $1,500, which is $300 past the wider top. That $1,500 is the after-hours multiplier on a standard visit at the typical top. It is not a second project inside this page.
How much does a plumber cost
How much a plumber costs is the visit at one house. One standard visit, labor in, is $200–$500. A bid that says how much a plumber costs and a bid that says plumber cost are the same dollars when the house, the repair, and the labor match. A price near $100 should say a small visit, not the common repair. A price near $500 should say whether the number is this band at its top, a faucet inside its overlap, or an emergency visit inside its overlap.
A small visit is typically $100–$200. The rows meet at $200. One hundred is the wider floor and the floor of this row. Two hundred is the typical floor and the top of this row. From $100–$200 the job sits under the typical band except at $200, and it stays inside the wider spread. One hundred can be this row at its floor. Two hundred can be this row at its top or a standard visit at the typical floor. A standard-visit price does not get this row on top.
An emergency visit is typically $300–$1,200. The overlap with the typical band is $300–$500. Three hundred is $100 above the typical floor. One thousand two hundred is the wider top and $700 past the typical top. From $300–$500 the job is inside the typical band and inside this row. From $500–$1,200 the job has left the typical band and stays inside the wider spread. Three hundred can be this row at its floor or a drain clearing at its top. One thousand two hundred can be this row at its top. A drain-clearing price does not get this row on top.
Five hundred plus $250 for a service call the visit left out is $750, which is $250 past the typical top, inside the emergency row, and $450 under the wider top. That $750 can be a standard visit at the typical top plus a service call at its top, or an emergency visit inside its row. Ask which reading the bid is.
Plumber pricing
Plumber pricing is the visit a plumber performs, not a part on a receipt. One standard visit, labor in, is $200–$500. A bid that says plumber pricing and a bid that says plumber cost are the same dollars when the house, the repair, and the labor match. A price near $100 should say a small visit, not the common repair. A price near $1,200 should say whether the number is an emergency visit at the top of the wider spread.
A camera inspection the visit left out is $150–$400. The overlap with the typical band is $200–$400. One hundred fifty is $50 under the typical floor and $50 above the wider floor. Four hundred is $200 above the typical floor, $100 under the typical top, and the top of this row. From $150–$200 the camera sits under the typical band except at $200, and it stays inside the wider spread. From $200–$400 the camera is inside the typical band. It is an added line, not the standard visit. Two hundred plus $150 is $350, inside the typical band, only when the $200 left the camera out. Two hundred plus $400 is $600, which is $100 past the typical top, inside the emergency row, and $600 under the wider top. Five hundred plus $150 is $650, which is $150 past the typical top, inside the emergency row, and $550 under the wider top. Five hundred plus $400 is $900, which is $400 past the typical top, inside the emergency row, and $300 under the wider top. A bid that already names the camera does not get this row on top.
An emergency visit is $300–$1,200. That reading replaces the standard visit when the job is after hours. The overlap with the typical band is $300–$500. Three hundred is $100 above the typical floor and the floor of this row. Five hundred is the typical top and inside this row. One thousand two hundred is the wider top, the top of this row, and $700 past the typical top. From $300–$500 the job is inside the typical band and inside this row. From $500–$1,200 the job has left the typical band and stays inside the wider spread. Three hundred can be this row at its floor or a standard visit inside the typical band. One thousand two hundred can be this row at its top. A standard-visit price does not get the emergency row on top.
Two standard visits at the typical top are two jobs. Five hundred plus $500 is $1,000, which is $500 past the typical top, inside the emergency row, and $200 under the wider top. That $1,000 is two visits or an emergency visit inside its row. It is not one small visit. A number above $1,200 should name a second visit, the after-hours multiplier on a standard visit, a water heater, a softener, a shower, or a sewer line. Ask which reading the bid is.
What the range includes
The typical band assumes one standard visit. The labor is in. The house is reachable from the drive. The day is a weekday. The repair is a common one the plumber can finish on that visit. The standard-visit row, $200–$500, is the band. A small visit meets the band at $200. A drain clearing is in the band only from $200 to $300. A toilet repair is in the band only from $200 to $250. A minor leak is in the band only from $200 to $400. A faucet is in the band only from $200 to $500. A garbage disposal install is in the band from $200 to $450. An emergency visit is in the band only from $300 to $500. One weekday hour is under the band. A softener, a shower remodel, and a sewer line are not in the band.
How long the work takes depends on the repair, and the bid’s schedule is the one that counts. A visit of one standard repair is often the same day. The time is a way to read that visit. It is not a second clock on a price that was already the repair. The next leak is not in this price.
The floor of the wider spread, $100, is a small visit at its low end. It is not a standard visit someone discounted. The top, $1,200, is four hours at $300 an hour, the top of the published after-hours hourly band. It is not the standard-visit row plus every add-on. Five hundred plus $250 for a service call is $750, not $1,200. Five hundred plus $500 for a second visit at the typical top is $1,000, not $1,200. Three times $500 is $1,500, not $1,200. A number above $1,200 should name a second visit, that multiplier, or a job past this page. Ask which one.
None of the bands include a service call on a visit the bid already priced, except where that call is a line the visit left out. The service-call line is $50–$250. Fifty dollars is $50 under the wider floor. A completed visit price does not get this row. Five hundred plus $250 is $750 only when the $500 left the call out.
None of the bands include a camera on a visit the bid already priced, except where that camera is a line the visit left out. The camera line is $150–$400. One hundred fifty is $50 above the wider floor. A visit that already names the camera does not get $150–$400 on top.
None of the bands include an emergency visit the weekday price left out, except as its own row, typically $300–$1,200. Three hundred is $100 above the typical floor. One thousand two hundred is the wider top. A standard visit does not get the emergency row. A visit that already is the emergency does not get $200–$500 on top.
None of the bands include a water softener, which is the water softener guide, often $1,200–$3,800 for one salt-based unit on a main that already has a loop, inside a wider spread of about $200–$5,000. One thousand two hundred is the floor of that typical band. Two hundred plus $1,200 is $1,400, inside that guide’s typical band and $200 past this page’s wider top. Five hundred plus $1,200 is $1,700, inside that guide’s typical band and $500 past this page’s wider top. Two hundred plus $3,800 is $4,000, which is $200 past that guide’s typical top and $1,000 under that guide’s wider top. Five hundred plus $3,800 is $4,300, which is $500 past that guide’s typical top and $700 under that guide’s wider top. That sum is a plumber visit plus a softener only when each bid left the other out. A softener price that already includes the labor does not get this page on top.
None of the bands include a shower remodel, which is the shower remodel guide, often $2,000–$9,000 for one existing stall, inside a wider spread of about $300–$15,000. Two thousand is the floor of that typical band. Two hundred plus $2,000 is $2,200, inside that guide’s typical band. Five hundred plus $2,000 is $2,500, inside that guide’s typical band. Two hundred plus $9,000 is $9,200, which is $200 past that guide’s typical top and $5,800 under that guide’s wider top. Five hundred plus $9,000 is $9,500, which is $500 past that guide’s typical top and $5,500 under that guide’s wider top. That sum is a plumber visit plus a shower remodel only when each bid left the other out. A shower price that already includes the valve does not get this page on top.
None of the bands include a sewer line, which is the sewer line guide, often $4,000–$15,000 for a main line of about 50 to 80 feet, inside a wider spread of about $1,500–$30,000. Four thousand is the floor of that typical band. Two hundred plus $4,000 is $4,200, inside that guide’s typical band. Five hundred plus $4,000 is $4,500, inside that guide’s typical band. Two hundred plus $15,000 is $15,200, which is $200 past that guide’s typical top and $14,800 under that guide’s wider top. Five hundred plus $15,000 is $15,500, which is $500 past that guide’s typical top and $14,500 under that guide’s wider top. That sum is a plumber visit plus a sewer line only when each bid left the other out. A sewer price that already includes the visit does not get this page on top.
None of the bands include a water heater, which is the water heater guide, often $1,400–$2,800 for a 40- to 50-gallon tank in the same spot, inside a wider spread of about $1,100–$8,500. One thousand four hundred is the floor of that typical band. One thousand four hundred is also $900 past this page’s typical top and $200 past this page’s wider top. It is a tank at the floor of that guide. It is not an emergency visit inside this page. Two hundred plus $1,400 is $1,600, inside that guide’s typical band and $400 past this page’s wider top. Five hundred plus $1,400 is $1,900, inside that guide’s typical band and $700 past this page’s wider top. Two hundred plus $2,800 is $3,000, which is $200 past that guide’s typical top and $5,500 under that guide’s wider top. Five hundred plus $2,800 is $3,300, which is $500 past that guide’s typical top and $5,200 under that guide’s wider top. That sum is a plumber visit plus a water heater only when each bid left the other out. A tank price that already includes the labor does not get this page on top.
The band is the visit price. A coupon on the visit is not subtracted. Read the form before you take a number off the bid. A credit you have not received is not inside the planning range. This page does not price a coupon, and it does not name a percentage of the cost that comes back at resale.
Warranties are part of the contract, and this page is not a reading of one company’s form. A visit, when the company offers a return for a leak the plumber missed, is about that leak. Read it. The return visit is not a dollar line in the planning range.
A standard homeowners policy is built around sudden and accidental damage. A drip you left is the kind of maintenance those policies commonly leave with the owner. A burst that floods a covered room, when the form responds to it, is a different question from a visit you are buying. Read the form before you treat the policy as the budget. The $200–$500 band is not an insurance estimate.
A permit the city requires is a line on that bid. This page does not price a city’s fee on top of a complete visit price. A washer on a faucet is not a permitted main in the ordinary case. A visit that already names a fee does not get that fee on top.
As a cross-check, not a bid: one standard visit, labor in, is $200–$500, the typical band. A small visit is $100–$200. A drain clearing is $125–$300. An emergency visit is $300–$1,200. A service call the visit left out is $50–$250. If a bid and that reading are far apart, the bid is a different repair, a left-out camera, a second visit, a water heater, a softener, a shower, or a sewer line.
What moves the price
| Driver | How it changes the bid |
|---|---|
| The visit | One standard visit, labor in, is $200–$500, the typical band. A small visit is $100–$200, and the rows meet at $200. A drain clearing is $125–$300, and the typical band includes that row only from $200 to $300. An emergency visit is $300–$1,200, and the typical band includes that row only from $300 to $500. The visit picks the row. It is not a second bill. |
| The repair | A toilet repair is $100–$250, and the typical band includes that row only from $200 to $250. A minor leak is $150–$400, and the typical band includes that row only from $200 to $400. A faucet is $150–$535, and the typical band includes that row only from $200 to $500. A garbage disposal install is $200–$450, inside the typical band. A standard-visit price does not get the faucet row. |
| The hours | A weekday hourly rate of $75–$150 is a reading of the same visit. Two hours at $100 is $200. Four hours at $125 is $500. The hours are not a second bill. |
| The common rate | A common weekday rate of $80–$130 sits inside the $75–$150 band. Two hours at $80 is $160. Two hours at $130 is $260. The rate is not a second bill. |
| The emergency rate | An emergency hourly rate of $150–$300 is a reading of an emergency visit. Two hours at $150 is $300. Four hours at $300 is $1,200. The rate is not a second bill on a weekday price. |
| The call | A service call the bid leaves out is $50–$250. Fifty dollars is $50 under the wider floor. A completed price of $200–$500 already holds a trip the bid named. Five hundred plus $250 is $750 only when the $500 left the call out. |
| The camera | A camera the bid leaves out is $150–$400. One hundred fifty is $50 under the typical floor. A completed price of $200–$500 already holds a camera the bid named. Five hundred plus $400 is $900 only when the $500 left the camera out. |
| The hour | An emergency visit is $300–$1,200 and replaces the standard visit. One thousand two hundred is the wider top. Three times $500 is $1,500, which is $300 past the wider top. A standard-visit price does not get the emergency row on top. |
| The second visit | Two visits at the typical top are $1,000, which is $200 under the wider top. That reading is two visits. It is not one small visit. |
| The other job | A salt-based water softener is $1,200–$3,800 on the water softener guide. One existing shower stall is $2,000–$9,000 on the shower remodel guide. A main sewer line is $4,000–$15,000 on the sewer line guide. A 40- to 50-gallon tank is $1,400–$2,800 on the water heater guide. A softener the bid is setting, a shower the bid is rebuilding, a line the bid is replacing, or a tank the bid is swapping does not get this page on top when that price already includes the labor. |
The repair is the first cut, and it is not a rate you add to itself. A small visit at $200, a standard visit at $200, and a toilet repair inside $100–$250 can share those dollars. They are not the same visit three times. Two hundred is the top of the small-visit row, the typical floor, and inside the toilet row. Ask which visit is in the price.
The hour is the second cut. A standard visit at $300, a drain clearing at $300, and an emergency visit at its floor can share those dollars. One is inside the typical band. One is inside the drain row. One is inside the emergency row. The higher number is not a typical visit that someone misread as a second repair.
The same standard visit in a lower-cost area and in a high-labor city can sit at opposite ends of $200–$500 without either bid being wrong. Ask whether the price is the repair, the hour, or both, and ask whether a service call, a camera, or a second visit is in. Water softener installation, shower remodel, and sewer line replacement are the projects that meet this visit and are not the visit. Price them on their own pages. Two bids that disagree about the repair, the hour, and whether the trip is included are not the same job.
DIY or hire
Hire the visit. A leak inside a wall, a flange under a toilet, and a drain that needs a machine are where a small miss becomes a flood. The labor, the diagnosis, and the shutoff are the job. A Saturday with a wrench is where those three get missed.
A supply stop the owner can reach under the sink is a different product. That number is not on this page, and it is not the plumber’s visit. On the one pro visit, one standard plumbing visit is $200–$500. That is the labor for the repair.
A part on a shelf is also a different product. That number is the part, not a plumber at the house. Do not treat the part as the visit. If the leak, the hour, and the shutoff still have to be done, you are pricing a plumber’s job without the plumber. The person at the house should say what happens if the leak returns. Turning one reachable stop is the owner’s part. A receipt for a washer is not this installed rate.
Repair or replace
Repair the fixture when the pipe is sound and the house is staying. That job is the typical band, $500 at the top and $200 at the floor, when the method is that visit. A quote near $100 should say a small visit, not a plumber on a common repair. A quote near $200 should say whether the labor and the repair are both in. A quote near $500 can be a standard visit at its top, a faucet inside its overlap, or an emergency visit inside its overlap. Ask which reading the bid is.
Price a small visit on $100–$200. Price a drain clearing on $125–$300. Price an emergency visit on $300–$1,200, and do not read that emergency visit as the standard band with a different name. Do not read a water heater as the visit band with a different name.
Send a softener on the main, with the repair already out of the question, to the water softener guide, typically $1,200–$3,800. Send an existing stall whose surround is the job, with the drain left where it is, to the shower remodel guide, typically $2,000–$9,000. Send a failed main line, with the snake already out of the question, to the sewer line guide, typically $4,000–$15,000. Send a tank that is leaking from the vessel, or a tank past its years, to the water heater guide, typically $1,400–$2,800. If the same season includes any of those, they are separate scopes. Do not fold them into the visit price.
How long a repaired joint lasts is not a number on this page. A one-house visit is not a warranty that the pipe will stay dry. A new tank is not a warranty that the house will never need a plumber again. The bid’s scope is the work you bought.
How to use this number
Ask two or three plumbers for a written price that names the repair, whether the day is a weekday or an emergency, whether the price is a lump sum or an hourly rate, whether the labor is included, whether the service call and a camera are already inside the price, and what happens if the leak returns. Compare one standard visit, labor in, with $200–$500. Compare a small visit with $100–$200, a drain clearing with $125–$300, an emergency visit with $300–$1,200, and a faucet with $150–$535. Keep the repair and the labor inside those rows. Put a left-out service call at $50–$250, and a left-out camera at $150–$400, on their own lines.
A very low bid on one visit is a reason to ask whether the labor is included, not a reason to celebrate. A quote near $100 should say a small visit, not a plumber on a common repair. A quote near $200 should say whether the trip is in. A high bid should point at an emergency hour, a camera, a tight access, or the labor market. Two or three local bids on the same repair, the same hour, and the same trip are the number that matters. How this site sets the band is explained on the methodology page.
