Carpet Cleaning Cost 2026: $125–$250 Typical US Range

Planning range

About 500 square feet of carpet in a single-family house, a steam clean with the labor in one price, on a weekday, in rooms a cleaner can reach. One room, a three-bedroom house, a large house, about 1,000 square feet, about 1,500 square feet, about 2,000 square feet, a per-room rate, a staircase, pet odor, a protectant, stain removal, furniture the visit left out, a full-service visit, a rented machine, a house clean, new carpet, and a laminate floor are separate.

Typical planning range $125 to $250. National spread $75 to $1,000.

DIY or hire
Hire the carpet clean. A steam clean of the floor, the stairs, and pet odor are where a rented machine leaves the carpet wet or the smell in the pad. Moving a light chair is the owner's part.
Repair or replace
Clean the carpet when the face is sound. Replace the carpet, switch to laminate, or clean the rest of the house when a steam clean will not fix what failed.

About 500 square feet of carpet in a US house — a steam clean, the labor in one price, on a weekday, in rooms a cleaner can reach — often clusters around $125–$250. That is the typical carpet cleaning cost. Carpet cleaning prices, in that scope, are that visit, not a rented machine and not new carpet. Carpet cleaning service cost, when the labor is in the price, is the same band. The cost to clean carpet, for that same visit, is the same band. Professional carpet cleaning prices, for that same visit, are the same band. One room is $100–$150. A three-bedroom house, about five rooms with the hallway, is $200–$500. A large house, about six to eight rooms, is $300–$700. The wider national spread, about $75–$1,000, covers a minimum visit at the low end and about 2,000 square feet at $0.50 a square foot at the high end. New carpet is the carpet installation guide. A house clean that is not the carpet is the house cleaning guide. A hard floor in place of the carpet is the laminate flooring guide. These are typical planning ranges, not a survey and not a quote.

This page is about 500 square feet of carpet, cleaned once. A bid may call it carpet cleaning cost, carpet cleaning prices, carpet cleaning service cost, the cost to clean carpet, or professional carpet cleaning prices. The labor is in the price when the number is the typical band. It is not new carpet, which is the carpet installation guide. It is not a clean of the rest of the house, which is the house cleaning guide. It is not a laminate floor, which is the laminate flooring guide. A machine from a rental counter is a smaller product. This page does not price it as the typical band.

The price of the job is the carpet the cleaner treats and the trip that puts the cleaner in the house. The size is the first cut. Whether the labor is already in the price is the second. One room, a three-bedroom house, and a large house are ways to buy one visit. The size replaces a different size. It is not a second visit under a price you already have.

The rows below are ways to read one job. They are not added together. The job table is one visit at a house the cleaner can reach. The typical band is about 500 square feet, labor in: that row in full. One room replaces that rate from $100 to $150. A three-bedroom house replaces it from $200 to $500. A large house replaces it from $300 to $700. Use a size row only for a line the visit row does not include. A size the proposal already includes is not a second size.

JobTypical cost
One room$100–$150
About 500 square feet, one visit$125–$250
Three-bedroom house, about five rooms$200–$500
Large house, about six to eight rooms$300–$700
Size or added lineTypical planning range
About 1,000 square feet$250–$500
About 1,500 square feet$375–$750
About 2,000 square feet$500–$1,000
One staircase$45–$65
Pet odor, one room the visit left out$20–$40
Protectant, one room the visit left out$10–$40
Furniture, one room the visit left out$25–$75

The job rows replace one another. Do not add a three-bedroom price on top of a 500 square foot price for the same visit. The size row is a line the visit left out. A size the visit price already includes is not the size row on top. A staircase the bid already folded into $125–$250 is not the staircase row on top.

A standard visit — about 500 square feet, the labor in one price — is typically $125–$250. The floor of the row is the typical floor. The top of the row is the typical top. The whole row is the typical band. One hundred twenty-five can be this row at its floor, one room inside its overlap, or about 500 square feet at $0.25 a square foot. Two hundred fifty can be this row at its top, a three-bedroom house inside its overlap, or about 500 square feet at $0.50 a square foot. It is also the floor of about 1,000 square feet. Ask which reading the bid is.

One room — the small job, not the common floor — is typically $100–$150. The overlap with the typical band is $125–$150. One hundred is $25 above the wider floor and $25 under the typical floor. One hundred fifty is inside the typical band and $100 under the typical top. From $100–$125 the job sits under the typical band and inside the wider spread. From $125–$150 the job is inside the typical band and inside this row. One hundred can be this row at its floor. It is not the typical band with a discount. One hundred fifty can be this row at its top or a standard visit inside the typical band. About 250 square feet or less is the same $100–$150. Ask which visit the bid priced. Do not add the 500 square foot row under a one-room price for the same trip.

A three-bedroom house — about five rooms, the hallway in the price — is typically $200–$500. The overlap with the typical band is $200–$250. Two hundred is $75 above the typical floor and the floor of this row. Two hundred fifty is the typical top and inside this row. Five hundred is $250 past the typical top and $500 under the wider top. From $200–$250 the job is inside the typical band and inside this row. From $250–$500 the job has left the typical band and stays inside the wider spread. Two hundred can be this row at its floor or a standard visit inside the typical band. Five hundred can be this row at its top or about 1,000 square feet at its top, which is the same $500. A one-room price does not get this row on top.

A large house — about six to eight rooms, the hallway in the price — is typically $300–$700. The whole row sits past the typical band. Three hundred is $50 past the typical top and the floor of this row. Seven hundred is $450 past the typical top and $300 under the wider top. From $300–$700 the job has left the typical band and stays inside the wider spread. Three hundred can be this row at its floor or about 1,000 square feet inside its row. Seven hundred can be this row at its top or about 1,500 square feet inside its row. A 500 square foot price does not get this row on top.

Carpet cleaning cost

Carpet cleaning cost is this page when the cleaner is in the house and the labor is in the price. Carpet cleaning costs, for that visit, are the same price. A bid that says carpet cleaning cost and a bid that says carpet cleaning service cost are the same dollars when the carpet, the rooms, and the labor match. The typical band, $125–$250, is about 500 square feet. It is not a second clean stacked on a visit you already have.

The visit is often the same day. A room is often 20 to 30 minutes, and those minutes are inside the visit price. They are not a second bill on a number that was already the clean. Labor is often $25–$65 an hour, and a completed clean price already holds that time. Two or three rooms at that pace are often about one hour to an hour and a half. A bid that already names $125–$250 does not get the hours on top.

A square-foot rate of $0.25–$0.50 is a way to read the same carpet on a steam clean. On 500 square feet, $0.25 is $125, the typical floor. $0.50 is $250, the typical top. The rate and the lump sum are two readings of one clean. They are not added. On 1,000 square feet, $0.25 is $250 and $0.50 is $500. Five hundred is $250 past the typical top, the top of the three-bedroom row, and $500 under the wider top.

A steam clean is often $40–$90 a room, and that rate is another reading of the same method. One room at $40 is $35 under the wider floor. One room at $90 is $15 above the wider floor and $35 under the typical floor. The one-room visit is $100–$150 because the trip has a minimum. The $40–$90 rate and the one-room price are two readings of one room. They are not added. Three rooms at $40 is $120, which is $5 under the typical floor. Three rooms at $90 is $270, which is $20 past the typical top, inside the three-bedroom row, and $730 under the wider top.

Carpet cleaning prices

Carpet cleaning prices are the visit price, not the price of a bottle of cleaner on a shelf. For about 500 square feet, that cost is $125–$250. A bid that prices the cleaner and a bid that prices a jug of solution are not the same number. Keep the labor in the number when a cleaner is who cleans the carpet.

Pet odor the same visit left out is $20–$40 for one room. Twenty dollars is $55 under the wider floor. Forty dollars is $35 under the wider floor. From $20–$40 the odor sits under the wider spread. It is an added line, not a visit. One hundred twenty-five plus $20 is $145, inside the typical band, only when the $125 left the odor out. One hundred twenty-five plus $40 is $165, inside the typical band, only when the $125 left the odor out. Two hundred fifty plus $20 is $270, which is $20 past the typical top, inside the three-bedroom row, and $730 under the wider top. Two hundred fifty plus $40 is $290, which is $40 past the typical top, inside the three-bedroom row, and $710 under the wider top. A bid that already names the odor does not get this row on top.

A protectant the visit left out is $10–$40 for one room. Ten dollars is $65 under the wider floor. Forty dollars is $35 under the wider floor. From $10–$40 the protectant sits under the wider spread. It is an added line, not a visit. One hundred twenty-five plus $10 is $135, inside the typical band, only when the $125 left the protectant out. Two hundred fifty plus $40 is $290, the same $290 as pet odor at its top. Ask which line the bid priced.

A staircase the visit left out is $45–$65. Forty-five dollars is $30 under the wider floor. Sixty-five dollars is $10 under the wider floor. From $45–$65 the staircase sits under the wider spread. It is an added line, not the 500 square foot floor. One hundred twenty-five plus $45 is $170, inside the typical band, only when the $125 left the stairs out. One hundred twenty-five plus $65 is $190, inside the typical band, only when the $125 left the stairs out. Two hundred fifty plus $45 is $295, which is $45 past the typical top, inside the three-bedroom row, and $705 under the wider top. Two hundred fifty plus $65 is $315, which is $65 past the typical top, inside the three-bedroom row, inside the large-house row, and $685 under the wider top. A per-step rate of $2–$5 is another reading of the same stairs. Thirteen steps at $5 is $65, the staircase top. Thirteen steps at $2 is $26, which is $49 under the wider floor and under the staircase lump. The rate and the lump are two readings. They are not added.

Carpet cleaning service cost

Carpet cleaning service cost is the installed clean on one house, not a list of supplies with the labor left out. When the job is about 500 square feet, that cost is $125–$250. A price near $75 should say a minimum charge at the floor of the wider spread, not a visit with 500 square feet and the labor in. A price near $125 should say whether the labor and the carpet are both in. One hundred twenty-five can be this band at its floor. It can also be one room inside its overlap or 500 square feet at $0.25. Those can be the same dollars and the same job, read two ways. They are not two bills.

Two rooms, basic cleaning, are often $75–$100 a room. Two times $75 is $150. Two times $100 is $200. The whole total, $150–$200, sits inside the typical band. One hundred fifty is $25 above the typical floor and the floor of this total. Two hundred is inside the typical band and $50 under the typical top. One hundred fifty can be this total at its floor or one room at its top. Two hundred can be this total at its top or a standard visit inside the typical band. A one-room price does not get the two-room total on top.

Three rooms, basic cleaning, are often $65–$75 a room. Three times $65 is $195. Three times $75 is $225. The whole total, $195–$225, sits inside the typical band. One hundred ninety-five is $70 above the typical floor. Two hundred twenty-five is inside the typical band and $25 under the typical top. One hundred ninety-five can be this total at its floor or a standard visit inside the typical band. Two hundred twenty-five can be this total at its top or a standard visit inside the typical band. A two-room price does not get the three-room total on top.

Four rooms, basic cleaning, are often $50–$65 a room. Four times $50 is $200. Four times $65 is $260. The overlap with the typical band is $200–$250. Two hundred is $75 above the typical floor. Two hundred sixty is $10 past the typical top and $740 under the wider top. From $200–$250 the job is inside the typical band and inside this total. From $250–$260 the job has left the typical band and stays inside the wider spread. A three-room price does not get the four-room total on top.

Five rooms of basic cleaning, the hallway left as its own question, are often $40–$50 a room. Five times $40 is $200. Five times $50 is $250. The whole total sits inside the typical band, from $200 to $250. Two hundred is the floor of this total and the floor of the three-bedroom row. Two hundred fifty is the typical top and the top of this total. A three-bedroom price of $200–$500 is the same five rooms when the hallway is in the price. From $200–$250 the two readings share the typical band. From $250–$500 only the hallway house is still in its row. A basic five-room price does not get the hallway row on top.

Cost to clean carpet

The cost to clean carpet is the clean on one house. About 500 square feet, labor in, is $125–$250. A bid that says the cost to clean carpet and a bid that says carpet cleaning cost are the same dollars when the carpet, the size, and the labor match. A price near $100 should say one room, not the common floor. A price near $250 should say whether the number is this band at its top, a three-bedroom house inside its overlap, or about 1,000 square feet at its floor.

About 1,000 square feet is typically $250–$500. The overlap with the typical band is the point $250. Two hundred fifty is the typical top and the floor of this row. Five hundred is $250 past the typical top and $500 under the wider top. From $250–$500 the job has left the typical band except at that shared floor, and it stays inside the wider spread. Two hundred fifty can be this row at its floor or a standard visit at its top. Five hundred can be this row at its top or a three-bedroom house at its top. A 500 square foot price does not get this row on top.

About 1,500 square feet is typically $375–$750. The whole row sits past the typical band. Three hundred seventy-five is $125 past the typical top and the floor of this row. Seven hundred fifty is $500 past the typical top and $250 under the wider top. From $375–$750 the job has left the typical band and stays inside the wider spread. Three hundred seventy-five can be this row at its floor or a large house inside its row. Seven hundred fifty can be this row at its top. A 1,000 square foot price does not get this row on top.

About 2,000 square feet is typically $500–$1,000. The whole row sits past the typical band. Five hundred is $250 past the typical top and the floor of this row. One thousand is the top of this page’s wider spread, $750 past the typical top. From $500–$1,000 the job has left the typical band and stays inside the wider spread. Five hundred can be this row at its floor, a three-bedroom house at its top, or about 1,000 square feet at its top. One thousand can be this row at its top. On 2,000 square feet, $0.25 is $500 and $0.50 is $1,000. The rate and the lump sum are two readings of one clean. They are not added. A 500 square foot price does not get this row.

Two hundred fifty plus $40 for pet odor the visit left out is $290, which is $40 past the typical top, inside the three-bedroom row, and $710 under the wider top. That $290 can be a standard visit at the typical top plus odor at its top, or a three-bedroom house inside its row. Ask which reading the bid is.

Professional carpet cleaning prices

Professional carpet cleaning prices are the visit a cleaner performs, not a rental on a receipt. One standard visit, about 500 square feet, labor in, is $125–$250. A bid that says professional carpet cleaning prices and a bid that says carpet cleaning cost are the same dollars when the carpet, the size, and the labor match. A price near $75 should say a minimum charge, not the common floor. A price near $1,000 should say whether the number is about 2,000 square feet at the wider top.

Stain removal the visit left out is $125–$250. The whole row can share the typical band. One hundred twenty-five is the typical floor and the floor of this row. Two hundred fifty is the typical top and the top of this row. One hundred twenty-five plus $125 is $250, the typical top, only when the $125 left the stains out. Two hundred fifty plus $125 is $375, which is $125 past the typical top, the floor of about 1,500 square feet, inside the large-house row, and $625 under the wider top. Two hundred fifty plus $250 is $500, which is $250 past the typical top, the three-bedroom top, the 1,000 square foot top, and $500 under the wider top. A visit that already treats the stains does not get this row on top.

Furniture the visit left out is $25–$75 for one room. Twenty-five dollars is $50 under the wider floor. Seventy-five dollars is the wider floor. From $25–$75 the furniture sits at or under the wider floor. It is an added line, not a visit. One hundred twenty-five plus $25 is $150, inside the typical band, only when the $125 left the furniture out. One hundred twenty-five plus $75 is $200, inside the typical band, only when the $125 left the furniture out. Two hundred fifty plus $25 is $275, which is $25 past the typical top, inside the three-bedroom row, and $725 under the wider top. Two hundred fifty plus $75 is $325, which is $75 past the typical top, inside the three-bedroom row, inside the large-house row, and $675 under the wider top.

A full-service visit — the furniture, the stains, the protectant, and the steam clean in one price — can be read as $1–$2 a square foot. On 500 square feet, $1 is $500 and $2 is $1,000. Five hundred is $250 past the typical top. One thousand is the wider top. That reading replaces the basic $125–$250. It is not $125–$250 plus $1–$2 a square foot. Five hundred can be a full-service visit at its floor, a three-bedroom house at its top, or about 2,000 square feet at its floor. One thousand can be a full-service visit at its top or about 2,000 square feet at its top. Ask which reading the bid is.

Two standard visits at the typical top are two jobs. Two hundred fifty plus $250 is $500, which is $250 past the typical top, the three-bedroom top, the 1,000 square foot top, and $500 under the wider top. That $500 can be two cleans at the typical top, a three-bedroom house at its top, or about 1,000 square feet at its top. Ask which reading the bid is.

What the range includes

The typical band assumes about 500 square feet of carpet. The labor is in. The method is a steam clean. The rooms are reachable. The day is a weekday. The 500 square foot row, $125–$250, is the band. One room is in the band only from $125 to $150. Two rooms of basic cleaning are in the band. Three rooms of basic cleaning are in the band. Four rooms of basic cleaning are in the band only from $200 to $250. Five rooms of basic cleaning are in the band from $200 to $250. A three-bedroom house is in the band only from $200 to $250. A large house is not in the band. About 1,000 square feet is in the band only at $250. About 1,500 square feet is not in the band. About 2,000 square feet is not in the band. A house clean, new carpet, and a laminate floor are not in the band.

How long the work takes depends on the rooms and the soil, and the bid’s schedule is the one that counts. A room is often 20 to 30 minutes. A visit of about 500 square feet is often the same day, and often about one hour to an hour and a half. The hours are a way to read that visit. They are not a second clock on a price that was already the clean. The next cleaning is not in this price. How long a clean lasts is not a number on this page.

The floor of the wider spread, $75, is a minimum charge at its low end. It is not 500 square feet someone discounted. The top, $1,000, is about 2,000 square feet at $0.50 a square foot, and it is also a full-service reading of 500 square feet at $2 a square foot. It is not the standard-visit row plus every add-on. Two hundred fifty plus $40 for pet odor is $290, not $1,000. Two hundred fifty plus $250 for a second clean at the typical top is $500, not $1,000. A number above $1,000 should name a larger floor or a clean past this page. Ask which one.

None of the bands include pet odor on a clean the bid already priced, except where that odor is a line the visit left out. The odor line is $20–$40 for one room. Twenty dollars is $55 under the wider floor. A completed carpet price does not get this row. Two hundred fifty plus $40 is $290 only when the $250 left the odor out.

None of the bands include a protectant on a clean the bid already priced, except where that protectant is a line the visit left out. The protectant line is $10–$40 for one room. Ten dollars is $65 under the wider floor. A steam clean that already names the protectant does not get $10–$40 on top.

None of the bands include a staircase the visit left out, except as its own row, typically $45–$65. Forty-five dollars is $30 under the wider floor. A floor price that leaves the stairs alone does not get this row. One hundred twenty-five plus $65 is $190 only when the $125 left the stairs out. A clean that already names the stairs does not get $45–$65 on top.

None of the bands include furniture the visit left out, except as its own row, typically $25–$75 for one room. Twenty-five dollars is $50 under the wider floor. Seventy-five dollars is the wider floor. A clean that already moves the furniture does not get this row. Two hundred fifty plus $75 is $325 only when the $250 left the furniture out.

None of the bands include stain removal the visit left out, except as its own row, typically $125–$250. One hundred twenty-five is the typical floor. Two hundred fifty is the typical top. A visit that already treats the stains does not get this row. Two hundred fifty plus $250 is $500 only when the standard visit left the stains out. Those can be a clean plus a stain line, or a three-bedroom house at its top. Ask which reading the bid is.

None of the bands include about 2,000 square feet the visit left out, except as its own row, typically $500–$1,000. Five hundred is $250 past the typical top. One thousand is the wider top. A 500 square foot clean does not get the 2,000 square foot row.

None of the bands include a house clean, which is the house cleaning guide, often $120–$240 for one standard clean of a single-family house, inside a wider spread of about $75–$750. One hundred twenty is the floor of that typical band. One hundred twenty-five plus $120 is $245, inside this page’s typical band and $5 past that guide’s typical top. Two hundred fifty plus $120 is $370, which is $120 past this page’s typical top, inside the three-bedroom row, and $380 under that guide’s wider top. Two hundred fifty plus $240 is $490, which is $240 past this page’s typical top, inside the 1,000 square foot row, and $260 under that guide’s wider top. That sum is a carpet clean plus a house clean only when each bid left the other out. A house-clean price that already includes the carpet does not get this page on top.

None of the bands include new carpet, which is the carpet installation guide, often $1,500–$4,000 for about 500 square feet of wall-to-wall synthetic carpet with the pad and the haul-away, inside a wider spread of about $200–$16,000. One thousand five hundred is the floor of that typical band. One hundred twenty-five plus $1,500 is $1,625, inside that guide’s typical band. Two hundred fifty plus $1,500 is $1,750, inside that guide’s typical band. Two hundred fifty plus $4,000 is $4,250, which is $250 past that guide’s typical top and $11,750 under that guide’s wider top. A new carpet takes the old carpet out. It does not get a clean of that old carpet on top.

None of the bands include a laminate floor, which is the laminate flooring guide, often $2,500–$4,500 for about 500 square feet of click-lock laminate with the plank and the labor, inside a wider spread of about $300–$19,500. Two thousand five hundred is the floor of that typical band. One hundred twenty-five plus $2,500 is $2,625, inside that guide’s typical band. Two hundred fifty plus $2,500 is $2,750, inside that guide’s typical band. Two hundred fifty plus $4,500 is $4,750, which is $250 past that guide’s typical top and $14,750 under that guide’s wider top. A laminate floor replaces the carpet. It does not get a clean of that carpet on top.

The band is the clean price. A coupon on the visit is not subtracted. Read the form before you take a number off the bid. A credit you have not received is not inside the planning range. This page does not price a coupon, and it does not name a percentage of the cost that comes back at resale.

Warranties are part of the contract, and this page is not a reading of one company’s form. A clean, when the company offers a return visit, is about a spot the crew missed. Read it. The return visit is not a dollar line in the planning range.

A standard homeowners policy is built around sudden and accidental damage. A carpet that got dirty is the kind of clean those policies commonly leave with the owner. A flood that soaks the pad, when the form responds to it, is a different question from a clean you are buying. Read the form before you treat the policy as the budget. The $125–$250 band is not an insurance estimate. Water extraction after a flood is not this page.

A permit the city requires is a line on that bid. This page does not price a city’s fee on top of a complete clean price. A carpet clean of occupied rooms is not a permitted trade in the ordinary case. A permit the proposal already includes is not a second permit.

As a cross-check, not a bid: about 500 square feet, labor in, is $125–$250, the typical band. One room is $100–$150. A three-bedroom house is $200–$500. A large house is $300–$700. About 2,000 square feet is $500–$1,000. If a bid and that reading are far apart, the bid is a different size, a left-out staircase, a full-service visit, or new carpet.

The visitAbout 500 square feet, labor in, is $125–$250, the typical band. One room is $100–$150, and the typical band includes that row only from $125 to $150. A three-bedroom house is $200–$500, and the typical band includes that row only from $200 to $250. A large house is $300–$700. The visit picks the row. It is not a second bill.
The sizeAbout 1,000 square feet is $250–$500. About 1,500 square feet is $375–$750. About 2,000 square feet is $500–$1,000. One thousand is the wider top. A 500 square foot price does not get the 2,000 square foot row.
The roomsTwo rooms of basic cleaning are $150–$200. Three rooms are $195–$225. Five rooms of basic cleaning are $200–$250, and that whole total sits inside the typical band. A five-room price does not get the hallway house on top when the hallway was left out.
The hourLabor is often $25–$65 an hour, inside the visit price. Twenty to thirty minutes a room, across the rooms in the visit, are inside a completed price of $125–$250. A carpet price does not get the hours on top.
The rateA square-foot rate of $0.25–$0.50 is a reading of the same steam clean. On 500 square feet, $0.25 is $125 and $0.50 is $250. On 2,000 square feet, $0.50 is $1,000, the wider top. A steam rate of $40–$90 a room is another reading. The rate is not a second bill.
The stairsA staircase the bid leaves out is $45–$65. Sixty-five dollars is $10 under the wider floor. Thirteen steps at $5 is $65. A completed price of $125–$250 already holds stairs the bid named. Two hundred fifty plus $65 is $315 only when the $250 left the stairs out.
The odorPet odor the bid leaves out is $20–$40 for one room. Forty dollars is $35 under the wider floor. A completed price of $125–$250 already holds odor the bid named. Two hundred fifty plus $40 is $290 only when the $250 left the odor out.
The stainsStain removal the bid leaves out is $125–$250. Two hundred fifty is the typical top. A visit that already treats the stains does not get that row. Two hundred fifty plus $250 is $500 only when the $250 left the stains out.
The full serviceA full-service visit can be read as $1–$2 a square foot. On 500 square feet that is $500–$1,000. One thousand is the wider top. That reading replaces the basic $125–$250. It is not a second rate on top.
The new floorNew carpet is $1,500–$4,000 on the carpet installation guide, inside a wider spread of about $200–$16,000. A house clean is $120–$240 on the house cleaning guide. Laminate is $2,500–$4,500 on the laminate flooring guide. A house the bid is re-carpeting, cleaning room by room, or covering with laminate does not get this page on top when that price already includes the carpet.

The size is the first cut, and it is not a rate you add to itself. A one-room visit at $150, two rooms at $150, and a standard visit at $150 can share those dollars. They are not the same visit three times. One hundred fifty is the one-room top, the two-room floor, and inside the typical band. Ask which visit is in the price.

The labor is the second cut. A visit at $200 and five rooms of basic cleaning at $200 can share those dollars. One is inside the typical band. One is the five-room floor, or four rooms at their floor, or a three-bedroom house at its floor. The higher number is not a typical visit that someone misread as a second clean.

The same 500 square feet in a lower-cost area and in a high-labor city can sit at opposite ends of $125–$250 without either bid being wrong. Ask whether the price is the carpet, the labor, or both, and ask whether stairs, pet odor, or a full-service list is in. Carpet installation, house cleaning, and laminate flooring are the projects that meet this clean and are not the clean. Price them on their own pages. Two bids that disagree about the size, the labor, and whether the stairs are included are not the same job.

DIY or hire

Hire the carpet clean. A whole floor, a staircase, and pet odor are where a small miss becomes a pad that stays wet or a room that still smells. The truck-mounted machine, the dry time, and the choice between a steam clean and a surface wipe are the job. A weekend rental is where those three get missed.

A rented machine is a different product. A standard cleaner is $30–$50 a day. A steam cleaner is $70–$125 a day. Thirty dollars is $45 under the wider floor. Seventy dollars is $5 under the wider floor. One hundred twenty-five is the typical floor. That number is the rental, not the installed carpet clean, and it is not every clean on this page. On the one pro visit, about 500 square feet is $125–$250. That is the labor and the clean together.

Do not treat a rented machine as the visit. If the stairs, the odor, and the dry time still have to be done, you are pricing a cleaner’s job without the cleaner. The person who cleans the carpet should say what happens if a fiber is damaged. Moving one light chair is the owner’s part. A rental receipt is not this installed rate.

Repair or replace

Clean the carpet when the face is sound. That job is the typical band, $250 at the top and $125 at the floor, when the method is that visit. A quote near $75 should say a minimum charge, not a cleaner doing 500 square feet. A quote near $125 should say whether the labor and the carpet are both in. A quote near $250 can be a standard visit at its top, a three-bedroom house inside its overlap, or about 1,000 square feet at its floor. Ask which reading the bid is.

Price one room on $100–$150. Price a three-bedroom house on $200–$500. Price a large house on $300–$700, and do not read that large house as the standard band with a different name. Do not read new carpet as the clean band with a different name.

Send carpet that is worn through, with the pad crushed, to the carpet installation guide, typically $1,500–$4,000. Send a floor you want as a hard surface to the laminate flooring guide, typically $2,500–$4,500. Send the rest of a dirty house, with the carpet still a separate line, to the house cleaning guide, typically $120–$240. If the same season includes any of those, they are separate scopes. Do not fold them into the clean price.

How long a clean lasts is not a number on this page. A one-house clean is not a warranty that the carpet will stay clean. New carpet is not a warranty that the rooms will never need a clean again. The bid’s scope is the work you bought.

How to use this number

Ask two or three carpet cleaners for a written price that names the square feet, whether the price is a lump sum, whether the labor is included, whether stairs, pet odor, or furniture are already inside the price, and what happens if a fiber is damaged. Compare about 500 square feet, labor in, with $125–$250. Compare one room with $100–$150, a three-bedroom house with $200–$500, a large house with $300–$700, and about 2,000 square feet with $500–$1,000. Keep the size and the labor inside those rows. Put a left-out staircase at $45–$65, pet odor at $20–$40, and stain removal at $125–$250, on their own lines.

A very low bid on one installed clean is a reason to ask whether the labor and the carpet are included, not a reason to celebrate. A quote near $75 should say a minimum charge, not a cleaner on 500 square feet. A quote near $125 should say whether the labor is in. A high bid should point at a large house, a full-service list, a tight schedule, or the labor market. Two or three local bids on the same size, the same method, and the same rooms are the number that matters. How this site sets the band is explained on the methodology page.

Common questions

Answers describe national planning ranges, not your house.

What is the carpet cleaning cost?

A typical planning range for the carpet cleaning cost is $125 to $250 for about 500 square feet, inside a wider spread of roughly $75 to $1,000. That scope is a steam clean with the labor in one price. One room is $100 to $150. A three-bedroom house, about five rooms with the hallway, is $200 to $500. About 2,000 square feet is $500 to $1,000. These are typical planning ranges, not quotes.

What are carpet cleaning prices?

Carpet cleaning prices, when the carpet and the labor match, are the same planning range. About 500 square feet, labor in, is typically $125 to $250. A staircase is $45 to $65. Pet odor in one room the visit left out is $20 to $40. One hundred twenty-five plus $40 for that odor is $165, inside the typical band. Two hundred fifty plus $40 is $290, which is $40 past the typical top. These are typical planning ranges, not quotes.

What is the carpet cleaning service cost?

The carpet cleaning service cost, when the labor is in the price, is the installed band of $125 to $250. A bid that says carpet cleaning service cost and a bid that says carpet cleaning cost are the same dollars when the carpet, the rooms, and the labor match. Three rooms at $65 to $75 a room is $195 to $225. Five rooms of basic cleaning at $40 to $50 a room is $200 to $250. These are typical planning ranges, not quotes.

About 2,000 square feet is $500 to $1,000. Two hundred fifty can be this band at its top, about 1,000 square feet at its floor, or a three-bedroom house inside its overlap. What are professional carpet cleaning prices?

Professional carpet cleaning prices, for about 500 square feet with the labor in the price, are $125 to $250. A full-service visit that also moves furniture, treats stains, and applies a protectant can be read as $1 to $2 a square foot. On 500 square feet that is $500 to $1,000.
